The tracks belong to a snowshoe hare! They are so named because of their very large hind feet that are lined with stiff hairs that act as a snowshoe, supporting their weight on the surface of the snow.

There were predictions posted yesterday for a significant Northern Lights display, and Aurora indicators showed that there was good potential for a decent show after it got dark last night. As it turned out, there was a glitch is the monitoring system that incorrectly reported space weather conditions resulting in incorrect readings and an erroneous forecast. I was not aware of it until later, and went out with my camera and a friend, but we managed to catch a brief show anyway, and it was a beautiful night to be out along Lake Superior even though it was quite cold.
