  • 25th April 2012 The USFS held their public meeting yesterday evening and presented the results of the dead tree assessment. The risks for all segments of all trails in the SHNF were noted. For Double Lake, the lakeshore trail was listed as low risk. For the bike trail, seven of the fifteen segments were listed as low risk and the other eight segments were split between moderate and high risk. This risk was determined by the number of dead trees per mile of trail. The low risk trails may be opened after the Forest Service re-evaluates them and documents that they are indeed low risk. The moderate and high risk segments will remain closed until all dead trees leaning towards the trail with a potential of falling on the trail are cut. They are now trying to determine the usage rate for each trail to determine their priority.
In summary, we do not know when the bike trail will open, but we are optimistic that it will be relatively soon. As we receive further information on the status of our trails, we will post it here first.
