Bayview Day Use Area

Due to the need to protect public safety and natural resources, Bayview Day Use Area will remain closed with expectancy through the end of the season. 

  • Bayview Day Use Area is located near Emerald Bay and sits at an elevation of 7,100 feet. Opening and closing dates are dependant on the weather. The area serves as a Trailhead for Desolation Wilderness. A Wilderness Permit is required to enter Desolation Wilderness.

    Day hikers may pick up a day-use permit at the self serve area at the Trailhead.

    Day Use

    Bayview Day Use Area (previously Bayview Campground) has picnic tables for day use. Inspiration Point sits adjacent to Bayview and is a viewpoint that overlooks Emerald Bay. A must see when visiting the Tahoe area! Overnight parking is for back country hiking parking only. Please see daily rates below.

  • No reservations are taken. Maximum vehicle length is 20 feet. A Wilderness Permit is required to enter Desolation Wilderness.
