Slide Group Campground

The Forest is currently in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. The alert notice can be found here. Effective May 25, 2022 the campground will be closed to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires during periods of high fire danger and severe fire weather conditions.

  • At an elevation of 8700 ft. and just two miles from the village of Cloudcroft, NM, this idyllic campground accommodates groups up to 90 visitors. Take advantage of the views of the Tularosa Basin or bask in the sun on the wildflower-dusted mountain meadow. A network of trails surround the campground and access to Rim Trail from the campground, where you can look for deer, elk, and many types of birds. The region is part of the 1.1 million acres of Lincoln National Forest, where the original Smokey Bear was rescued as a cub from a forest fire.

    Slide Campground is located 3 miles south of Cloudcroft, NM. The road leading to the campground is gravel, and interior roads are black-top. Parking is limited to approximately 12 trailers or 50 automobiles. The group site has a very large, covered pavilion with one large fire ring, benches, three smaller fire rings, two pedestal barbeques, and a bear-proof food storage container. Water is available at nearby Deerhead campground.
